Signage installation guide
Before placing your order please carefully select the best mounting option for your environment.
For easy DIY installation please select the 'self adhesive backing' as mounting option at checkout for adhesive backing. This means the signs will arrive with a sticker backing ready to be installed. Your order will include an installation template as shown in the below video.
The self adhesive backing is suitable for adhesion to typical smooth and lightly textured joinery surfaces like laminate, timber look laminate with grain, melamine and polyurethane paint. If you have a more textured joinery door finish than mentioned above then we would recommend the Option 02 installation method below.
The adhesive backing is for permanent installation and may damage the joinery finish underneath if removal is attempted. The adhesive becomes more permanent the longer it is left in place.
Option 01 - DIY Installation (self adhesive backing)
Installation steps:
- Prepare the joinery door finish by cleaning with a cloth and rubbing alcohol.
- Cut the template to determine the gap you would like to the top of the door. We recommend 50mm so that there is enough clearance to prevent signs from being touched whilst the bin door / Drawer is being opened. If you have a pull handle already installed on the door then you may need to adjust template to suit.
- Carefully cut out the corresponding sign shape on the template.
- Measure the full width of the door using a tape measure to determine the centre of the door.
- Mark the centre line with a non permanent, grey lead pencil.
- Align the centre of the door with the centre of the template to ensure you sign will be installed centred on the door.
- Stick the template to door using a removable scotch tape or sticky tape. Ensure the template sits flat against the door.
- Remove sticker backing from the rear of the sign.
- Position sign to align with the template cutout.
- Stick sign to door.
- Place the polishing cloth over the sign and push down to adhere sign to joinery door.
- Remove template from door.
- Remove grey lead pencil mark with rubbing alcohol - be careful of using cleaning products near door - refer below cleaning note.
- Leave sign for 48 hours to ensure proper adhesion.
- Polish the sign with a polishing cloth to remove finger prints.
Installation note:
If you make a mistake and need to remove the sign, we would recommend following installation Option 02 for re-installation as the sticker adhesive is likely to be less effective the second time around.
Cleaning note:
Do not clean sign with cleaning products and chemicals as they can permanently damage the finish of the sign. Use only warm soapy water and a microfibre or polishing cloth.
Option 02 - Installation by tradesperson (no mounting)
Installation steps:
- Follow the above Option 01 installation steps from 1 - 7
- Apply a structural silicone or adhesive with some malleability so that glue allows for the joinery door movement during use.
- Stick sign to door.
- Tape sign in place with masking tape or other removable tape so it does not move whilst glue is drying.
- Leave sign for 24 hours to ensure proper adhesion.
- Remove masking tape and template
- Remove grey lead pencil mark with rubbing alcohol - be careful of using any cleaning products near door refer below cleaning note.
- Polish the sign with a polishing cloth to remove finger prints.
Cleaning note:
Do not clean sign with cleaning products and chemicals as they can permanently damage the finish of the sign. Use only warm soapy water and a microfibre or polishing cloth.
